What is a Vein Ablation?
Vein ablation is a procedure used to treat varicose veins, which are those veins that have become enlarged from pressure placed on them due to the leaking valves. There are multiple techniques used to close these veins and your doctor will choose the one for you.
What to expect when you arrive.
You will be taken back to a room and sign your consent. You will get undressed and the leg to be treated will be prepped and draped.
Your procedure will be explained and you will be able to ask questions.
After the procedure.
Your leg will be wrapped and discharge instructions will be given. You will be scheduled for an ultrasound in the next few days to check for a blood clot. You may have some soreness in the treated leg.
What to expect at home.
Recovery time is short. You can walk and return to most activities the same day. You will wear the compression wrap as directed then switch back to your compression stockings. Watch for signs of infection, avoid hot baths, saunas or whirlpools.
