Mesenteric Artery Disease

Mesenteric artery disease is blockages of the arteries that supply blood to our intestines. The intestines digest food and get rid of waste.

Symptoms

Abdominal pain, most notably after eating meals. Weight loss.

Diagnosis

Your doctor will perform a physical evaluation and discuss your history of symptoms. They may then order an ultrasound of the abdomen to evaluate for blockages of the arteries that supply blood. If this test indicates a blockage then they will discuss a procedure to open them.

Treatment

Angiogram of the mesenteric arteries and treatment with balloon angioplasty and stents.
